I designed and built this clock for a Navy friend who thought it might be a nice anniversary gift for his wife of 20 years. Chuck (my navy friend) and I were assigned to DESRON 17 and deployed to the Middle East and Somalia in 1992-3 (Blackhawk Down days!). I couldn’t resist the challenge and needed a reason to create a new, smaller clock. I started this project in July and finished it yesterday! I used several exotic hardwoods including: Gabon ebony, brown ebony, quartersawn walnut, figured birch, wenge, and palm nuts (the hour markers)! The topping contains a Swarovski crystal with an etched rose. It runs by electromechanical impulse to the pendulum instead of weights.
